Week 5 Reflection.

This week has been a great week. From the first student council meeting to acing a song in Kapa Haka, I have so many endorphins.

Zita, Niko, and I cruised down to the first student council meeting on Wednesday. We mostly talked about what the student council will do, come up with new token box rewards and tried to think of a new name for the student council.

I can’t wait to see what next week will bring.

Water Safety

We have been learning about water safety. Today we focused on Drownings. In 2022 there were 80 preventable deaths. I learnt that:

  • 19 occurred while swimming
  • 14 occurred from a powered boat over four metres.
  • 21 deaths occurred at a beach
  • 16 were in rivers.

Males made up 82.5% of all the drownings. The majority of people that drowned were ages 65 and over.

When you go in, on or around water you should:

  • Keep children under the age of 5 within arms reach
  • Check the weather conditions – link
  • Take someone with you. In 2021, 44% of the drownings happened when the person was alone.

Second Week Back In Tangaroa.

This week was the second  back in Tangaroa. To be honest, I was really tired from Waitangi weekend. It was harder for me to focus but I will try harder next week. We did a lot of camp prepping for Spencer Park next Tuesday- Wednesday.

The highlight of this week was being told that I would be on the student council. I am so grateful to be given this opportunity and will strive to make this school a better place for everyone.

The first lesson of Tech started up again. I am  in 8C with four of my friends. I am doing Digi Tech with Ms Gorman and it seems really cool. We had to do a game to figure out coding. It was hard at first but after five minutes it was really fun.

I can’t wait to see what next week will bring.

Te Reo Maori Short Story.

8th of February 2015.

Kia ora. I’m about to go to school for the first time at Rawhiti School.  I used to go to North New Brighton school but then it shut so it could create an even better one. I already know a few teachers as some of them were with me at North New Brighton. I walk into the last class called ” Tangaroa “.  A girl with brown frizzy hair rushes up to me.

” Ko wai tō ingoa?” She asks.

” Ko Sarah taku ingoa ” I say with a smile.

First Week Back In Tangaroa.

This week was the first week back in Tangaroa. I was excited to come back to school so I could reconnect with my friends who I didn’t see during the holidays. I am really excited to see what this year has in store for me.

The biggest highlights this week was making my sign for the hikoi tomorrow and getting ready to submit my reasons to join the student council. I truly hope the leader will see that I would be a great asset to the council.

It was weird not seeing my friends who have gone to high school as they were an important part in my school life. It felt weird no longer waking up at noon. I also really need to get used to going to the year eight bag bays and shoe rack.

I am looking forward to see what week 2 will bring.

Term 4 Action Stations

This term for Action Stations I chose to do Quiz night. We were given a bunch of questions with a theme and were given five minutes to solve it. My team ( Paige, Pip and I ) won by one point. We got 61/62 questions right. I really enjoyed working together as a team as we all work really well together. I am excited for next week!

Passion Project – Getting Better At Line Dancing.

Today for my passion project, I wanted to improve on my line dancing. Daisy, Abby and I were in the small breakout room and we did the line dances to Achy Breaky Heart, the Bunny Hop and Cowboy Up. Next time I think we will need to be in a bigger area because we kept on crashing into each other.  My goal was to stay in time with the beat but I got out of time one and forgot where in the dance we were but I quickly remembered and joined back in.

Duolingo.

I decided to take a break from learning Spanish so I have started learning Latin. Today I learnt that ” Puella sum” means ” I am a girl”, ” Ego sum ( your name )” means  “I am ( your name)”  and that ” Ego sum femina” means ” I am a woman”. Do you use Duolingo?
